We'll own up. We're desperate. Desperate for people to sign the petition. BANMINES began on 3 September 1997 - seven years ago - and we still only have
4804
signatures.
That's about 70 a month - less than three a day!
We know this is one of the most important petitions on the Internet. We know that there are:
- 69 countries worldwide affected by landmines
- 110 million landmines buried worldwide
- 100 million landmines stockpiled
- 100,000 landmines removed annually
- 2-5 million landmines planted annually
- 360 different types of anti-personnel mines currently in worldwide use
- 100 companies in 55 countries producing landmines (approx.) and that
- If de-mining continues at its present rate it is estimated that it will require 1,100 years and 33 billion US dollars to eradicate the 110 million landmines currently planted.
We know that if you asked the millions of people around the world who use the Internet, they'd say, 'Of course landmines must be banned immediately.'And yet only
4804
have so far found their way to signing our petition.
We also know that many visitors arrive at our site and don't bother to sign the petition.
